Why don't I need a license or insurance for an Ecoped scooter? |
Ecoped scooters are classified as power-assisted bicycles. This means that they are bound by the same laws that apply to traditional bikes, not motorcycles. The only restriction is that you must be over 16 years of age to ride. |
What do I need to operate an Ecoped?
|
All you need is a D.O.T. approved helmet and knowledge of any bicycle laws in your area. |
| Where can I park an Ecoped? |
Ecoped scooters can be parked and locked to bicycle racks just like a traditional bicycle. All scooters have a built-in wheel lock for added security and require a separate key to start the motor. |
| Where can I ride in an Ecoped? |
Ecoped scooters can go wherever bicycles can. Most cities now have bicycle lanes on the road or allow bicycles on sidewalks. Since Ecopeds are classified as bicycles, you too can take advantage of these.
As with traditional road bicycles, Ecopeds work best on dry, level ground. |
| Why are there pedals on the scooter? |
There are pedals on the Ecoped scooter because it cannot be considered an E-bike without them. The Government of Canada's rules and regulations classify an E-bike as having the following features:
- steering handlebars and is equipped with pedals
- is designed to be propelled primarily by muscular power and to travel on not more than three wheels.
The pedals can be folded back and removed on the Ecoped, however, please refrain from riding the Ecoped with folded or removed pedals. |
| How is the Ecoped powered? |
Ecoped scooters are powered by a powerful battery that is capable of hundreds of charges. When your battery runs out, simply use the charger included with your scooter and plug it into any traditional wall outlet. A charge time of 7 hours will give you 60km of travel!
Ecoped scooters also come with pedals installed so that you can provide additional power when going up a steep hill or if the battery runs out. |
| Can more than one person ride an Ecoped at the same time? |
Only one person can lawfully ride the bike, double riding is against the law. The Ecoped is limited to 125kg (275lb), including cargo. For your safety and the safety of others, refrain from carrying passengers. |
| Where can I charge the Ecoped? |
Ecoped scooters can be charged anywhere. The included charger is compatible with the 120V wall outlet in your home, at the office or at school. You can even bring the charger with you and charge it during the day! |
| How much storage space do Ecoped scooters come with? |
Ecoped scooters come with a spacious and removable rear storage compartment large enough for a backpack, laptop computer and several textbooks. There is a smaller storage bay located near the steering column in which to carry the battery charger for longer trips. |
| How safe are Ecoped scooters? |
Ecoped scooters are limited to speeds of under 32km/h. This means that while you will be traveling quite fast, you will be able to stop quickly and safely. All Ecoped scooters also feature an Electronic-Assisted Braking System, which ensures that the brakes work properly and efficiently in all conditions. |
| What type of helmet can I use? |
You can use any D.O.T.-Approved helmet for use with an Ecoped scooter. For added protection, you may want to use a helmet that has a face shield or a helmet with back and side protection. |
